Libraries across Hertfordshire are hosting Scam Awareness Roadshows to help prevent local people being scammed
Scams come in many forms:
•emails, on Facebook, by post, by phone, by text or in person at your door.
•Beware vitamin and herbal remedy scams involving cold calls. If in doubt talk to your doctor or social worker.
•Say NO to anyone who turns up at your home uninvited. Call 101 to report a suspicious cold caller to the police or 999 if they won’t take no for an answer.
•Only deal with callers by appointment and always ask for ID. Don’t buy anything at the door.
•Beware of any junk mail you didn’t sign up for. The most common scam letters are fake lotteries, prize draws, sweepstakes and clairvoyants.
•Beware of unexpected phone calls – always check a caller is who they say they are.
•Never tell anyone your PIN number or passwords.
•Beware of calling premium rate telephone numbers such as 090 or 070 or international numbers.
