Love Welwyn Hatfield

Love Welwyn Hatfield is our exciting new initiative, funded by Serco, to mobolise volunteers across our district for the good of all.  Our slogan ‘clean up, paint up, plant up’ describes the type of activity we are equipping and supporting local people to do in the areas where they live. Regular litter picks in WGC and Hatfield are being organised by our Project Coordinator, Cheryl Horton. Participants can take part in one off or on going actions with formed groups, or neighbours or friends.  Local groups are encouraged to join in too. For instance, regular litter picks are currently being planned by groups including Briars Pavilion, Kings Community Church and the Inclusion Project. All equipment is provided and support is given as required.  More info on Facebook @LoveWelwynHatfield.

As part of the initiative, Serco are releasing £12000 for a Welwyn Hatfield Environmental Improvement Trust.  Local people and groups can apply for funding to makeover, renovate and improve their local areas. Ideas include planting up, installing art or making a public garden space.  We’re very open to ideas. Our funding panel consists of CVS CEO Carmen Dillon, two CVS board members and a Serco representative. They will meet quarterly to allocate funds. Anyone with interest is invited to contact Carmen or Cheryl who will be very pleased to help.

April has much activity planned through two intensive campaign weeks. Clean Up Hatfield are leading on the Hatfield action 1 – 7 April and WGC set for 15 – 21 April. Both campaigns contribute to the Keep Britain Tidy, ‘Big Spring Clean.’ (See www.keepbritaintidy.org).  We’ll be seeking to encourage local business to get involved.   They too are invited to do something great for their local community, inspire others and build their team through Love Welwyn Hatfield.

So, if you, or anyone you know, would like to do something worthwhile, make new friends, get outdoors, have fun, improve your local area and help local wildlife please get in touch!
