Welwyn Hatfield Housing Options are looking for someone to become Temporary Accommodation Manager, a role which is responsible for the management and co-ordination of our Temporary Accommodation for homeless households.

The successful candidate will become a key member of the Housing Options Team, as we work towards reducing levels of homelessness in our district.

This is an exciting time to join the team, with recently added resources giving us an increased ability to prevent homelessness and find new homes for those requiring our assistance. There are plans to redevelop our Temporary Accommodation currently underway, which if successful will ensure that we continue to provide short term accommodation which is suitable for residents’ varying needs in brand new units of accommodation.

Working alongside the Housing Options Team Leaders, you will:

  • Lead a team of four officers in the Temporary Accommodation team,
  • Plan and co-ordinate the provision of accommodation for those who require it, sometimes at short notice,
  • Prepare accommodation for occupation, ensuring minimal void periods,
  • Manage contracts and liaise with partners, to ensure the effective running of the service
  • Ensure that residents are provided with safe, suitable accommodation

You will be responsible for the line management of your team, ensuring that performance is monitored, and policies and processes are followed. You will work to ensure that there is an availability of temporary accommodation, basing your planning on data analysis and trends that come from that data.

You will be able to manage financial budgets associated to the effective management of an accommodation service. You will monitor contracts to ensure that agreed service standards are met. You will deal with reports of anti-social behaviour and liaise with colleagues to deal with issues, in accordance with Council policies and objectives.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in dealing with people with complex needs
  • Experience in managing a small team of dedicated staff
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with other organisations
  • The ability to deliver within a pressurised environment, with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
