A letter from Welwyn Garden City Foodbank

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you and your colleagues are in very good health.

I am writing to advise you that Welwyn Hatfield Foodbank will be very shortly be closing.  Following a review of the suitability of our premises and other aspects, the decision has been made to cease the foodbank operation after 10th of April.  As the lead organisation in the foodbank, the Fountain of Life Church retains an undiminished compassion for people in need in Welwyn, but has identified that its resources and premises may be better suited for helping people in other practical ways.  We will be exploring this in the months to come.

The first concern that you are likely to have is whether this will leave local people without emergency food aid when they need it most.   Welwyn Hatfield Foodbank is not the only emergency food charity in the area, and it is our understanding that other such charities will be more than able to meet the needs of clients who may have previously been referred to us, particularly in Welwyn.  We also understand that a new foodbank may open in Hatfield, offering better access to help for Hatfield residents than we have latterly been able to offer from Welwyn.  I cannot give you details of this, but am alerting you that you may be contacted by a new foodbank there if it is established.

In sharing this news with you, may I ask you to undertake in four ways?  Could I ask you to:

  • Advise any relevant colleagues that the foodbank will be closing officially on the 10th of the month of April, 2107
  • Kindly destroy any remaining red vouchers
  • Advise any clients with a voucher that it must be used before the foodbank closes
  • Arrange for any reference to Welwyn Hatfield Foodbank to be removed from information given to your clients or the wider public

If you can help in those regards that would be much appreciated.

And finally, may I thank you for partnering with is during the time that Welwyn Hatfield Foodbank has been operating.  The partnership of local agencies such as yours has been critical to ensuring that local people get the emergency food help that they need.  We are so grateful for working with us over the last few years.

May I wish you every blessing in the future

Yours faithfully,

Welwyn Hatfield Foodbank
