This month, we said goodbye to Julie; one of the office volunteers working on the Community Car Scheme Project. For a little over a year, Julie worked in a team of 5 volunteer administrators, helping to book car scheme journeys for our customers who find it difficult to use public transport due to medical needs.
In her role, Julie liaised with customers about their trip and how they would need to be accommodated. She would then coordinate these trips with our volunteer drivers. Julie is a fast learner and quickly managed to pick up the financial side of things by taking payments from customers once the trip(s) had been completed.
Here’s what she had to say about her experience.

“All the staff and volunteers are genuinely lovely people and a pleasure to work with.
It is sometimes a challenging role but all made worthwhile by the appreciation of clients who really need the service and would otherwise struggle to get transportation to appointments and social visits.
On a personal note, it has been a great help to get me through a difficult time in my life and has helped build my confidence and skills.
I would highly recommend volunteering to anyone who has the time to spare and I’m sure they would find it rewarding and enjoyable.”
Julie – Community Car Scheme
“Julie is softly spoken which really put our clients at ease, especially when they were new to the service and anxious about what to expect. She has really come out of her shell since joining us and became a valued and well respected member of the team. We are proud of her achievements and we are glad she won’t be far; we’ll no doubt see her from time to time.”
Carmen – Chief Executive Officer
“Julie will be an absolute asset with any organisation she chooses to volunteer or work for, because she is a very good listener, picks up things very quickly, is willing to learn and an excellent team player.”
Alison – Car Scheme Coordinator
Julie is now heading over to one of our member organisations, to work as a staff administrator. We wish her all the best in her new employment and we are proud of how far she has come. It was our privilege to have her as a part of our team, building her confidence to fulfil her goal.
