Healthwatch Hertfordshire were commissioned by Public Health Hertfordshire to explore public perceptions of, and barriers to, sexual health services in Hertfordshire, as well as general understanding of sexually transmitted infections (STI).
130 people who responded to the survey said that access to services was generally good, with 68% experiencing no barriers at all and most feeling confident about key sexual health topics. However, common barriers such as difficulty making an appointment, travelling long distances to clinics and concerns about having privacy compromised when attending, were still faced by some respondents.
The survey also highlighted that information and awareness about the testing and treatment of STIs could be increased.
