Love Welwyn Hatfield is the community clean-up campaign to help improve particular areas that require some TLC.

We have teams in the community involved in:

  • Litter picking to keep our area looking like the beautiful borough it should be
  • Painting and fixing areas such as walls and underpasses that need refreshing
  • Planting flowers and shrubs in communal spaces that could benefit from an injection of colour and greenery

Working together we can keep our streets and local areas clean for the community by community.

Love Welwyn Hatfield has just received a grant from Arnold Clark Community Fund to help during the pandemic with the schemes littler picking efforts. With more and more people in the community making use of local green spaces, woodland walks, parks and around the neighbourhood, we are delighted to have their support.

Litter Picking

Our fabulous litter picking volunteers meet regularly sporting their bright high vis vest, pickers gloves and bags around Welwyn Hatfield. You can get involved with a team already established or create your own team of like minded individuals and concentrate on a specific area.

How do I get started?

It’s very simple and we can give you with guidance, coordinate your teams and provide you with equipment. All you have to do is:

  • Choose a suitable local site e.g your street, park, school ground etc
  • Put your team together
  • Decide on a suitable date
  • Contact WHCVS to get advice, support and your kit

How do you help?

Once you have decided on a location you will need to collect equipment from WHCVS office which will allow you to carry out your event safely and successfully.

We also offer:

  • Advice, support and coordinating teams
  • Publicity through our mailing list, News articles and social media to raise awareness and encourage people to #BinIt
  • COVID-19 guidance, protocals and keeping safe kits
  • Litter Picking Kits
  • Regular communication

Equipment available: Reflective vest, safety gloves, litter pickers refuse sacks, two types (rubbish & recycling)

If you do happen to see other litter pickers out and about say hi and work together because a problem shared is a problem solved. Oh and not forgetting it’s all about team work!

We fully support Keep Britain Tidy and raise awareness for their campaigns. Keeping Britain tidy is a daily task but each year they hold the Great British Spring Clean that you and your teams can get involved in.

The mission this year was to join the #LitterHeroes with the #MillionMileMission to “clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches. Because what is good for our environment is good for our mental and physical health too”.KBT

Paint It, Plant It, Fix It

We are looking for groups who would like to plant up, make over or clear up unloved areas across the borough, turning the area into space for the community to use and appreciate.

Most of the funding provided by Serco Welwyn through the Welwyn Hatfield Environmental Improvement has been used by local charities and community groups but we still have a small amount remaining to continue working with the community.

For further information and how to get involve – please contact Cheryl c.horton@whcvs.org.uk or 01707 274861
