Who we are:

The Welwyn Hatfield Community for Voluntary Services (WHCVS) exists to develop and promote local voluntary and community groups in order to improve the quality of life for individuals, groups and communities.  This requires us to work actively with other agencies to combat poverty and disadvantage which may exclude or constrain the opportunities of many individuals, groups and communities from full participation in civic life.

We also recognise that inequalities exist based on the above factors and we will therefore give priority to working with groups and/or communities whose full participation in society is limited by economic, political and social disadvantage.

What we do:

The Welwyn Hatfield Community and Voluntary Services provides support and advice to Voluntary and Community Organisations as well as to individuals in Welwyn Hatfield by acting as an central agency for those who need assistance and those who are volunteering their services for this purpose. In addition, we also operate the WHCVS Community Car Scheme which transports residents in the Welwyn Hatfield Borough who have difficulty using public transport. This may be because of mobility problems or other special needs. We transport to hospitals appointments all over the county and to London specialist hospitals.

You will also find the the Volunteer Centre Welwyn Hatfield is integrated into the work of the of the WHCVS. We develop and promote local voluntary and community groups in order to improve the quality of life for all.

Our policies and practices stem from the following set of values:

  • a belief in equality of opportunity for all
  • a belief in the right of individuals to work collectively to participate in decision-making and local affairs
  • a belief in the importance of building the capacity of local voluntary and community groups so that they are democratic and accountable
  • a belief in the need for the voluntary and community sector to work as equal partners with others to bring about the development and regeneration of their communities.
