I’m Sharon 52 living in Hatfield. I joined the Welwyn Hatfield Community and Voluntary Services in 2022 because I wanted to help and volunteer in my local community. I have a varied work background from working in a Bank to Retail positions as well as working as Receptionist and different Administrative roles. I also trained in Reiki and as a Barber but in my spare time, I’m a big lover Art and Music.
I’m a very good communicator with people of different ages and backgrounds; I love hearing their stories. I’m patience, kind and I like to help others and give them advice however I can.
So I became a Telephone Befriender, and so far I am enjoying it. I do prefer to meet people out and about, face to face; I like to see eyes light up and their beaming smile which can’t be seen over the phone, so this is new to me.
I have experienced tough times in my life with depression and anxiety; I felt lost and lost all hope. Fortunately, I’m on the right medication and incorporated life skills such as mindfulness, mediation and the healing of nature to help with my mental health. Did you know that the colour green is a natural antidepressant?
I am a survivor and have worked immensely on my well-being in the last 5 years. I know I can help others who may be struggling or feel stuck not knowing which direction to turn. There is light and always hope for change, to turn our lives around. Having caring people like the people at the Welwyn Hatfield Community and Voluntary Services in our lives, can make a huge difference. It helps you feel valued and appreciated.
